May 10, 2019 Last April 28th, the Byteflies team along with Henkel runners were present at the Düsseldorf Metro Marathon, all committed to go through the extenuating 42 km end goal. There, our CEO Hans Danneels and our Hardware Engineer Niels Van Thienen culminated months of training. During their preparation, and at the Marathon itself, all runners were monitored by the wearable smart technology of a Health Patch co-developed by Henkel's adhesives, QUAD's electronics and Byteflies’ wearable sensor dots. This allowed for safe and personalized follow-up reports from our data scientists as well as a personal trainer. Moreover, our Health Patch was awarded as the Best New Wearable Technology Device by the IDTechEx Show in Berlin this year. Our partnership went beyond the currently available sport wearables and focused on both measuring standard heart rate (HR), respiration (RES), movement (IMU), and heart rate variability (HRV). These vital signs in waveforms were analysed to have a better overview of the athlete's performance and cardiac function during training, at the marathon, and during recovery. One of the best athletes during this project was Bram Dambre. He recorded more than 700 hrs with 23 running hours during his training, and ran the marathon in 3.30 hours. Below you can see his final report with an overall overview of his performance during the training period, as well as the data obtained at the event, which shows the changes in his movement and heart rate.
